TAKAYAMA - SHIRAKAWAGO - NAGOYA - HAKONE

Nos reunimos en el hotel para salir hacia Shirakiawago en bus privado y con nuestra guía de habla hispana. Ese día nos llovió bastante, pero en los hoteles, a la salida te ofrecen paraguas así que no hay que agobiarse, además yo no vivo en el desierto precisamente así que la lluvia no es impedimento para nada.

We met at the hotel to set off by private bus for Shirakawa-go, accompained by our Spanish-speaking guide. It rained quite heavily that day, but hotels usually provide umbrellas when you head out, so there´s no need to worry. Besides, I don´t exactly live in the desert, so a bit of rain isn´t going to stop me from enjoying the day.

He tomado esta fotografía que va en cabecera de una publicación que no es mía, porque me ha gustado mucho como se ve desde arriba toda la aldea. Está atravesada por el río Shogawa y rodeada de montañas. Este lugar tan bonito de la región japonesa de Chubu está, además, repleto de casas de estilo gassho-zukun, que destacan por su tradicional tejado triangular de paja. Un paseo nos dio la oportunidad de descubrir cómo es la vida rural japonesa.

Al bajar del autobus, nos encontramos rodeados de montañas verdes, algunas incluso con nieve todavía.

I took this photograph, which I´m using as the header image from a post which wasn´t mine, because I really liked the way the entire village looks from above. The village is crossed by the Shogawa River and surrounded by mountains.
This beautiful place in japan´s Chubu region is also home to numerous gassho-zukuri houses, which stand out for their traditional triangular thatched roofs. A walk through the village gave us the opportunity to discover what rural life in Japan is like.

Al bajar del autobús, nos encontramos rodeados de montañas verdes por todas partes, algunas incluso cubiertas de nieve aún.

As we stepped off the bus, we found ourselves surrounded by lush green mountains, some of them still covered in snow.

Shirakawago fue declarada Patrimonio de la Humanidad por la UNESCO en 1995, junto a su vecina Goyama, gracias a sus casas. De hecho cuando paseas por sus calles, es fácil entender esa decisión.

Shirakawa-go was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1995, together with its neighboring village of Gokayama, thanks to its traditional houses. In fact, as you walk through its streets, it is easy to understand why this decision was made.

Estamos a solo unos 50 minutos en coche de Takayama, pero parece que hemos retrocedido en el tiempo, hasta el periodo Edo, una época que representa la esencia de la cultura japonesa. Una época de shogunes y samuráis, que ha inspirado innumerables libros y películas. Allí fuimos a visitar una de las casas tradicionales Gassho-zukuri.

We´re only about a 50 minutes drive from Takayama, but it feels like we have stepped back in time, back to the Edo period and the highlight of Japanese culture. A time of shoguns and samurais, a time that has inspired countless books and films. And so we went to visit one of those traditional houses Gassho-zukuri.

La calle principal de Shirakawago se llama Shirakawago Kaido. Está llena de casas tradicionales reconvertidas en tiendas de artesanía y souvenirs, además de restaurantes y pequeños puestos de comida callejera.

The main street in Shirakawago is called Shirakawago Kaido. It is lined with traditional houses that have been converted into craft and souvenir shops, as well as restaurants and small street food stalls.

La aldea es muy fácil de recorrer, es llana y todo está señalizado, lo mejor ir observando cada planta, cada flor y sobre todo ir sin prisa, viendo como está construído el pueblo y viendo sobre todo cómo encaja todo en el entorno, los campos de arroz, los peces en los pequeños ríos, y la estética en general.

The village is very easy to explore. It is mostly flat and everything is well signposted. The best way to experience it is to take your time, stopping to admire every plant and flower, and above all, not to rush. Take in the way the village has been built and specially, how beautifully everything blends into its surroundings, the rice fields, the fish swimming in the small streams, and the overall aesthetic.

La razón principal de pasear por esta aldea es ver las casas, por fuera y por dentro si se tiene suerte como nosotros. La verdad es que no había mucha gente. ¿Cuánto se tarda en ver todo?, pues aproximadamente unas 3 o 4 horas si se quieren hacer algunas compras o probar los platos típicos de la zona que son muchos.

The main reason to visit this village is to see the houses, both from the outside and, if you´re lucky like we were, from the inside as well. To be honests, there weren´t many people around when we visited. How long does it take to see everything? Well approximately three or four hours especially if you want to do some shopping or try some of the many traditional dishes from the area.

Salimos después del paseo hacia Nagoya y paramos para comer y siempre comemos rico y muy ligero.

After our walk, we headed to Nagoya, stopping for lunch along the way. As always, we had a delicious meal that was light and easy on the stomach.

En Nagoya cogemos el tren de nuevo, esto de los trenes bala me encanta y sobre todo la organización en las estaciones, montones de gente y no hay ni una sola aglomeración, ni un empujón y teniendo en cuenta que los trenes paran 1 minuto es de agradecer. Esta vez vamos hasta Odawara en el tren bala Hikari 654 y de allí en bus hasta Hakone donde esta vez se puede disfrutar de un "Onsen" en el ryokan de Hakone. Lo mejor del trayecto es que pudimos ver el monte Fuji osea que tuvimos mucha suerte.

In Nagoya, we catch the train again. I absolutely love these bullet trains, especially the way the stations are so well organised. There are huge crowds of people, yet there´s never any pushing or chaotic congestion. And considering that the trains only stop for about a minute, you really appreciate how smoothly everything works. This time we took the Hikari 654 bullet train to Odawara, and from there we took a bus to Hakone, where this time we get to enjoy an "onsen" at our ryokan in Hakone. The best of our journey was that we got to see Mount Fuji, which means we were really lucky.

Se conoce como onsen a las aguas termales de origen volcánico que se encuentran en Japón. Son los baños tradicionales japoneses, que aprovechan el calor natural de estas aguas procedentes de la gran actividad volcánica. Esta foto de aquí abajo no es mía.

An onsen is a natural hot spring of volcanic origin found throughout Japan. These are traditional Japanese baths that make use of the natural heat of the water, which comes from Japan´s intense volcanic activity. This picture below is not mine.
