CUADERNO DE VIAJE JAPON - DIA 2 - OSAKA {TRAVEL NOTEBOOK JAPAN - DAY 2 - OSAKA}
- The first night in Japan was fantastic because we slept without moving a muscle. We set off and met our guide, who spoke Spanish perfectly. We began the tour by coach until we reached a point from which we continued walking alongside the wall surrounding the castle. In the photo below, you can clearly see the contrast between the new and the old.
- Besides being the symbol of the city, Osaka Castle, located in the heart of the great metropolis (the Chūō district), is its premier tourist attraction. The main highlight of Osaka Castle Park, which covers a generous area of 1km more or less, is the castle tower situated in the central area. The park also features gardens and open squares, a concert hall, and even baseball fields and running tracks, making it a true recreational space.
- From the outside, it appears to be a five-story building, but inside it is actually an eight-floor structure. The main tower has been completely transformed into a museum, and each floor contains explanations and models depicting Hideyoshi’s life, as well as the culture and society of those times. On the first floor, there are impressive life-size replicas of the golden tiger that decorates the black wall on the castle’s top floor, along with a shachihoko (a mythical tiger-fish creature) like those displayed on the roof of the building.
- A miniature representation of the bloody battle between the armies of Sanada Yukimura and Matsudaira Tadanao during the Summer Siege. The truth is that I didn´t and I don´t know anything about Samurais and Japanese wars.

- We took the bus again and headed to Nara Park. I imagine many people are familiar with the wild deer that roam freely through the park. As soon as they see you reach into your bag, they expect a cracker (you’re only allowed to feed them the ones sold in the park) and they surround you.
- It was raining heavily when we visited the park, so the deer weren’t in their best shape either—soaked through. To be honest, I wasn’t very keen on touching them, so we just walked through without stopping. Before that, though, we visited the Tōdai-ji Temple, which is beautiful.

- The Great Buddha statue is the largest wooden structure in the world.
- Tōdai-ji Temple, known for its Great Buddha, is Nara’s most iconic tourist attraction, Nara being Japan’s former capital. Within its vast grounds there are countless sights, and many of its buildings have been designated National Treasures of Japan.
- The temple grounds and surrounding area.
- And although Nara has a lot to offer, if we had to choose just one place to recommend on your visit to the city, we would definitely go with Tōdai-ji temple and its approach through Nara Park… it’s a visit you can’t miss!
