CONSUEGRA - TOLEDO {CONSUEGRA - INSIDE THE PROVINCE OF TOLEDO}
Una mañana de Octubre (al final voy dejando estas entradas y han pasado ya dos meses) y de camino hacia Granada decidimos parar en Consuegra para no hacer todo el viaje de golpe. Consuegra es conocida por tener el mayor número de molinos de viento en España. Estas estructuras tan bien conservadas son un destino bastante popular para visitar si te encuentras cerca de la zona. Nosotros como íbamos de paso parar no fue ningún problema. Aunque el principio de funcionamiento es relativamente sencillo, la maquinaria y la estructura que lo hace posible no lo son. Años y años de uso han perfeccionado su mecanismo para darle el aspecto que podemos admirar hoy en dia; Láminas de chopo, ruedas de roble y cúpula de pino rematada con techo metálico conforman el corazón de estas grandes máquinas que han alimentado a los vecinos de Consuegra y sus alrededores con el fruto de la tierra.
- This visit took place one day at the beginning of October (God, I leave all these posts for later and when I realise two months have flown) on our way to Granada, and as it takes us around 9 hours to get there, we decided to stop on our way to the south. Consuegra is well known because it has the largest group of windmills in Spain. These well-preserved structures are a popular destination to visit when in the area. Although the principle of operation is relatively simple, the machinery and the structure that makes it possible are not. Years and years of use have perfected its mechanism to give it the look we can admire today; poplar blades, oak wheels and pine dome topped with metal roof make the heart of these great machines that have fed the people of Consuegra and its surroundings with the fruit of the land.

Consuegra es un municipio y localidad española de la provincia de Toledo, en la comunidad autónoma de Castilla-La Mancha. El principal sector económico es la agricultura. La industria está dominada por el textil y la madera. El turismo se ha convertido en una nueva fuente económica en el siglo XXI. El castillo y los molinos de viento son los monumentos más importantes de Consuegra.
La mayoría de los molinos de viento españoles, como los descritos en la novela Don Quijote de Miguel de Cervantes de principios del siglo XVII, se pueden encontrar en la comunidad de Castilla-La Mancha, en el centro de España. Los mejores ejemplos de molinos de viento españoles restaurados se pueden encontrar alrededor de Consuegra, donde se pueden ver varios molinos en la colina a las afueras de la ciudad, que ofrecen una vista del castillo del siglo XII y de la ciudad. Con mas de ochocientos años de antigüedad, el castillo de Consuegra es una fortaleza de gran singularidad y atractivo, no solo por el lugar donde se halla, que se divisa La Mancha y sus molinos, sino por su rica historia y arquitectura vinculada estrechamente con la Orden de San Juan de Jerusalém. Qué pena que no pudimos visitarlo. Para cuando llegamos ya había cerrado.
- Consuegra is a municipality located in the province of Toledo, Castilla-La Mancha, Spain. The principal economy sector is agriculture. The industry is predominated by textile and wood. Tourism has become a new economical source in the 21st century. The castle and the windmills are Consuegra´s most important monuments.
- Most Spanish windmills, like those described in Miguel de Cervantes´early 17th century novel, Don Quijote, can be found in the community of Castilla-La Mancha, in central Spain. The best examples of restored Spanish windmills may be found around Consuegra, where several mills can be seen on the hill just outside the town, giving a view of the 12th-century castle and of the town. More than eight hundred years old, the Castle of Consuegra is unique. Not only because of the place where it is, but also for its great history and arachitecture, linked with the Order of Saint John of Jerusalem. From here you can see La Mancha and the windmills in its original splendour. What a shame we couldn´t visit it, by the time we arrived, it had already closed.

- From there you can see the whole village. The 12 windmills with their outstreched arms stand as if patrolling the small town of Consuegra.The heart of Consuegra is a square that features some of the city’s most distinctive and historic structures. It is a perfect blend of the Castilian-Mudejar and La Mancha architectural styles. All Consaburenses come together here and the city’s cultural and recreational hub, making it a vital stop for visitors. The ancient Roman forum was located in the city’s downtown area and served as the hub of urban activity. This is where the most important events and activities take place nowadays. Consuegra is also famous for its marzipan cakes. There are pastry shops everywhere.

Pasamos una noche en Consuegra y dormimos aquí es una casa rural en el centro del pueblo y está ideal, tiene hasta una pequeña piscina en el patio.
- We spent a night in Consuegra and we slept here is a rural house in the centre of the village and it´s beautiful, it has even a small swimming pool in the patio.
