LA ALCAZABA Y LA CIUDAD - THE ALCAZABA AND THE CITY

To avoid the heat of the day, we leave the hotel by 9.00 a.m. The temperature is great at this hour. The city is still quiet, I think Almería is still sleeping. It´s Saturday.

Empezamos a subir.

Okay, let´s go up.

As you could see from the post I wrote the other day about Almería, the Alcazaba can be seen from any point of the city. It´s the biggest and most important monument in Almería built by the Arabs in Spain. It was built by Abderraman III and it was rebuilt by the Catholic King and Queen, which makes it the biggest military fortress in Europe.

It has 3 resorts, one of which was rebuilt by the Catholic King and Queen, and at some time in history was royal residence too. You can only access through one door which is almost invisible. From the top, You have a magnificent view over the city if you go there.

Y seguimos subiendo. Llegamos a las últimas escaleras.

And we kept on going up. A few more steps and we´re done.

From there, you can easily see the Cerro de San Cristobal, and on the top of the Sacred Heart. And if you look in the other side, you see the city.

You find there beautiful linear gardens and fountains very typical from arab buildings. It reminded me of La Alhambra(Granada).

The views from here are awesome. We are going to go to the Military halls to have something to drink before visiting the war´s refuge. That part deserves just a post itself. We could see the patio we visited the day before (previous post).

Y empezamos a bajar. Ya empieza a hacer mas calor.

While we´re going down, we can feel the heat.

Okay, we arrived already. It´s time to get something to drink. I love this patio. It´s full of orange and lemon trees. I can´t think of a better place to stay when these trees are covered in blossom.
