SORRENTO - MARINA GRANDE
Agosto 2019
- August 2019
Solamente con salir del hotel y encontrarte con estas vistas ya era un regalo. ¿Soy yo solo la que pienso que me podría quedar aquí para siempre?
- Just going round the corner from our hotel and find this it was just a present. Is it just me the one who thinks that I could stay like this and here forever?.
- One of the roads that connect the city center consist of the steps of a mediaeval stone, half of which comes under the door stricking arch, so called "Greek". It was probably on into the century XV the only access to the city of Sorrento from the sea. Our relaxed day took us into a little bit of investigation about Marina Grande and let me tell you the place couldn´t be more beautiful and just 15 minutes walking from the city centre.
- We went down towards the sea and I couldn´t stop shooting because I drove myself crazy with everything I saw, from the old buildings to the doors, couldn´t stop admiring every corner of our route. Whatever you do don´t miss a visit to the port of Marina Grande, because from now on this has to be my number one choice when recommending things to do in Sorrento. There´s a lift to the marina but as I said we walked. Our walking tour was like a window to the past, very impressive.
La planta verde que crece en las paredes de la muralla es la planta de la alcaparra tan típica del Mediterráneo.
- The green leaves growing on the solid wall is the capers plant, so typical in the Mediterranean.
- The Marina is an ancient harbour and was the home of pirates in days gone by. Fishermen are still working, this is a working village so the catch of the day is straight from the boats to your plate.
- The charming beauty of this place also fascinated Dino Risi and Luigi Comencini two directors who decided to film the majority of the scenes of their movie "Bread, Love and....." in Marina Grande. The film starring by Vittorio de Sica and Sofia Loren.
- We sat for lunch in a restaurant overlooking the sea, Delfino, la food was gorgeous.
- I´m a huge fan of gnocchi Sorrentina, so once again....
- As I said above, overlook the sea from this restaurant was a privilegue.
- At the heart of the Marina is the Church of Sant´Anna, patron saint of the village, constructed by the fishermen of the San Giovanni Brotherhood, at first dedicated to the souls in purgatory and then to St. Anne. On the Sunday following 26th July, day dedicated to the saint, the village is decorated in festive mood, the bay fills with boats and the sea is illuminated by highly colourful fireworks.
- The truth is that it was for us a gorgeous day and I can say that Marina Grande, nowadays preserves the flavour of olden day traditioins blending, in delightfull union with the sea breeze, tiny houses, traditional boats and charming small restaurants by the sea, fitting into the harbour without modifying its original vocation as a fishing village.
