CUADERNO DE VIAJE RUTAS DESDE SORRENTO 2 - TRAVEL NOTEBOOK ROUTES FROM SORRENTO 2

Nuestro segundo recorrido en barco, paró esta vez en Amalfi y Positano. El plan mas o menos el mismo, baño en alta mar, comida y gente nueva con la que charlar y pasar un día diferente. Como expliqué en entradas anteriores, la mejor forma de ver esta costa es desde el mar, vale puedes ir también por carretera, pero los atascos son monumentales y las carreteras muy muy estrechas, parecidas estas que enseño aquí debajo.

1. Our second route by boat stopped this time in Amalfi and Positano. The day plan was more or less the same: Swim in deep waters, lunch while sailing, meeting new people and spend a wonderful and different day. As I already said in previous posts, the best way to enjoy the coast here is from the sea, okay you can also go along the road but the jams are terrible and the roads are very very narrow and crowded.

Está claro que cuando uno sueña con un verano en Italia te transportas a estas costas Amalfitanas. Nos hemos hartado de ver fotografías en libros e incluso en películas. La Costiera Amalfitana la forman 13 pueblitos llenos de flores y limoneros que quedan suspendidos entre el mar y los acantilados que forman la costa de la Península Sorrentina al sur de Nápoles. Desde Punta Campanella hasta Salerno hay 70 Km que incluyen también las ciudades tan conocidas y pintorescas como Positano, Amalfi y Ravello. ¿Tesoros? a montones, escondidos entre esta costa y aunque no la pudimos visitar por falta de tiempo, conviene mencionar la ciudad de Vietri sul Mare donde se pueden encontrar las cerámicas mas famosas, incluidos azulejos. Este escondite favorito para los ricos y famosos, turistas y recién casados fué galardonado por la Unesco como Patrimonio de la Humanidad en 1997.

1. The Amalfi Coast is what Italian summer dreams are made of. We have tried to capture its beguiling beauty in photographs, and I´ve seen it in books and even films. La Costiera Amalfinata is made up of 13 villages dripping with flowers and lemon groves, magically suspended between the shimmering sea and green-swathed mountains and cliffs on the southern coast of the Sorrentine Peninsula, south of Naples. The coast stretches 70km from Punta Campanella to Salerno, and includes the picturesque towns of Positano, Amalfi and Ravello. Many treasures lay hidden within this celebrated coastline, among them, the town of Vietri Sul Mare that we weren´t able to visit because we were running out of time, which is famous for its coloured ceramics and tiles. This favourite haunt of the rich and famous honeymooners and tourist wa awarded a coveted spot on the UNESCO World Heritage list in 1997.

Amalfi es la ciudad mas grande de la costa y una de las mas populares como base para dormir después de Sorrento, aunque yo después de haberla visitado me alegro de haber elegido la última la verdad. Amalfi es el lugar perfecto para esos que quieran el lujo y la belleza de Positano sin los precios escandalosos. Amalfi tiene un poco de todo para todo el mundo, con una playa grande, mayormente de piedritas aunque algunas veces de arena, y con una cultura e historia muy interesantes.

1. Amalfi is the largest town along the coast and one of the most popular towns to stay in after Positano and Sorrento, but now I know it, I´m really pleased to have chosen the last really. Amalfi is the perfect place to stay for those who want the luxury and beauty of Positano without the VIP nightlife/prices. It has a little something for everyone, with great pebble beaches, well sometimes sandy as well and with interesting culture and history.

La Catedral de Amalfi (Catedral de San Andrés) es una catedral Católica Romana en la Piazza del Duomo. Está dedicada al Apóstol San Andres cuyas reliquias están allí. Se empezó a construír en los siglos IX y X y se ha ido añadiendo y redecorando varias veces, por encima de elementos Arabes, Normandos, Góticos, Renacentistas, Barrocos. La catedral incluye la Basílica del Crucifijo .

1. Amalfi Cathedral (in Italian Duomo di Amalfi, Cattedrale di Sant´Andrea) is a medieval Roman Catholic cathedral in the Piazza del Duomo. It is dedicated to the Apostle Saint Andrew whose relics are kept here. Begun in the 9th and 10th centuries, it has been added to an redecorated several times, overlaying Aran-Normal, Gothic, Renaissance, Baroque elements. The cathedral includes the adjoining Basillica of the Crucifix.

La fachada frontal fue reconstruída en 1891 despues de que la original colapsó. Es de mármol rallado y piedra con arcos abiertos y detalles no muy típicos de la arquitectura sacra Italiana mientras que la cupula de azulejos es típica de Iglesias de la zona. 62 escalones te llevan hasta la puerta. Aunque aquí empezamos ya a sufrir las escaleras por todas partes.

1. The frontal facade was rebuilt in 1891 after the original one collapsed. It is of striped marble and stone with open arches that have detailing not commonly found in Italian sacred architecture while the tiled cupola is quite common amongst churches of the area. 62 steps lead up to the doors. We started to suffer the ups and downs with steps everywhere. 

Estas ciudades son complicadas para pasear, aunque hay un paseo muy famoso que se llama El camino de los Dioses con una distancia de 5.3 kilómetros por las montañas, pero yo no fuí a eso. En dos horas lo único que vimos fue El Museo de la Carta, Los Claustros y la Catedral.

1. These towns are not easy to walk around, though there is a very famous hiking trail called The Path of Gods with a distance of 5.3 km through the mountains, but I didn´t go there for that purpose. In two hours we only visited The Museo della Carta, Cloister del Paradis and the Cathedral.

1. And two hours later, we said goodbye to Amalfi to sail towards Positano.

1. Positano is a beautiful little beach town, famous for its colorful buildings, excellent restaurants and ideal location on the amalfi Coast. Who could possibly forget Positano in the film "Under the Tuscan Sun". The village of Positano is home to tiny, winding roads that run down to the sea and are lined with shops and cute boutique hotels. When we arrived the town was loaded and again you have to be brave enough to go up all those stairs if you want to walk around. Things to do there?: You can visit some Art Galleries, Santa María´s church, take 1 million pictures, have something to drink at the beach if you´re lucky enough to find a place and if you happen to be there at lunch time, try the gorgeous Italian food. We weren´t much time there either, but we were able to do some of the things in that list.

1. In the village center, there are tons of cute clothing boutiques, ceramic shops and souvenirs. We also found some fish shops.

1. After so many steps, we finally found a table to have something to drink at the beach. From here we just went back to Sorrento.
