CUADERNO DE VIAJE, 1 MADRID, CÁCERES {TRAVEL NOTEBOOKS}
14.8.2011. Dejamos un Madrid desértico una mañana de domingo después de haber pasado 2 días maravillosos con nuestra hija. Un calor sofocante como siempre. Las calles vacías, Madrid en Agosto es otra historia. Fué un alivio entrar en el coche y enchufar el aire acondicionado...¡eso si!. Después de conducir durante dos horas, llegamos a Trujillo. ¡Qué puedo decir!, es preciosos, ¡me he enamorado de trujillo!.
- 14th August 2011. We left an empty Madrid a Sunday morning after spending two days with our daughter. God it was hot. The streets were empty, and it would have been great to walk if the temperatures weren´t so high. I have to confes it was a relief to feel the air conditioning inside the car.
- After driving for two hours, we arrived in Trujillo. What can I say?, it´s awesome! I fell in love with Trujillo!.
Estamos en la Plaza Mayor de Trujillo. Su plaza principal es una de las plazas mas espectaculares de España rodeada de edificios de piedra barrocos y renacentistas con fachadas talladas, torres, torretas, cúpulas y cigüeñas anidando. Tengo que hablaros un poco de esta ciudad y enseñaros algunas fotos. Aquí debajo el Palacio de la conquista.
- We are in the Plaza Mayor of Trujillo. It is one of Spain´s most spectacular plazas, surrounded by baroque and Renaissance stone buildings sporting cupolas and nesting storks. I have to tell you about Trujillo, such a beautiful place. Let me show you some pictures too. The Palacio de la Conquista.
Famosa por sus monumentos, Trujillo fue la ciudad de nacimiento de Francisco Pizarro, conquistador del Perú, cuya escultura ecuestre,, mayor símbolo de esta localidad, se levanta en la Plaza Mayor. Los monumentos más importantes, se concentran en la Plaza. El castillo, una fortaleza Arabe, la Iglesia de Santa María (del siglo XIII) y la Iglesia de San Francisco.
- Famous for its monuments. It was the birthplace of Francisco Pizarro and his brothers,, conquerors of Peru. Pizarro´s equestrian statue stands in the Plaza Mayor, or main square. The most important monuments are the castle, old Arab fortress, the Church of Santa María (13th century) and the Church of St Francis.
Las cigüeñas anidan por todas partes.

Paramos en el Parador de Trujillo, lo típico, queso y jamón pero sobre todo beber algo porque aquí hace un calor de muerte. El edificio pertenecía al convento de Santa Clara antiguamente.
- We stopped at the Parador in Trujillo, to eat something typical from the area, some cheese and Jamón de bellota, but mainly to drink. This heat is killing us. The building of the actual Parador, once belonged to Santa Clara convent.
Nadie en las calles. ¡Hora de la siesta!. Nos vamos ya.
- Nobody in the streets, it´s siesta time so we decided to leave.
CACERES Y LA VISITA DEL PAPA
45 Kilómetros mas tarde ya estamos en Cáceres. Nuestro hotel está en el centro histórico así que paseara después de haber descansado un rato es un placer. No mencioné antes la visita del Papa porque ibamos a verle sino porque Cáceres estaba lleno de gente joven que había venido de mil sitios de todo el mundo para el reencuentro de Madrid. En el momento que llegamos a la Plaza estaban colocando a la gente en diferentes casas para dormir. La historia de la ciudad sobre las batallas entre los Moros y Cristianos se refleja en su arquitectura que tiene una mezcla de estilos Romanos, Islámicos, Góticos y Renacimiento Italiano. De las 30 torres del periodo Musulman, la torre del Bujaco es la más famosa. Cáeres ha sido una ciudad de ruta de comercio y centro político de los nobles locales durante muchos siglos. Desde los tiempos prehistóricos, la gente de diferentes culturas se encontraban en Cáceres y han formado sus raíces históricas. Los asentamientos Pre-romanos ocuparon el terreno original, seguido por los Romanos, Arabes, Judíos y Cristianos.
- CÁCERES AND THE POPE´S VISIT
- 45kms away from Trujillo and we are already in Caceres. Our hotel is in the Historic Centre of the city, the old part, and it´s a pleasure to have a walk after resting for a while in the hotel. Temperatures cooled down by that time. I didn´t mention the Pope´s visit before because we didn´t go to Madrid for this, but when we arrived to the center we saw many young people who came from all over the world to the big Religious encounter in Madrid. The were being relocated in different houses to sleep that night. The city´s history of battles between Moors and Christians is reflected in its architecture, which is a blend of Roman, Islamic, Northern Gothic and Italian Renaissance styles. Of the 30 or so towers from the Muslim period, the Torre del Bujaco is the most famous.
- Cáceres has been a trade route city and a political centre of the local nobles for many centuries. Since prehistoric times, people from different cultures have gathered in Cáceres and have shaped its strong historical roots. Pre-Roman settlements occupied the original plot followed by the Roman, Arab, Jewish and Christian people.
Una boda para recordar. Hacemos la visita a la ciudad antes de cenar. el centro histórico es de quitar la respiración, impresionante. La Ciuidad vieja de Cáceres fue declarada Patrimonio de la Huanidad por la Unesco en 1986, ya que es uno de los conjuntos urbanos de la Edad Media y del renacimiento más completos del mundo.
- A wedding to remember. We visited the city before dinner. The historic part of Cáceres is breathtaking, awesome. Cáceres was declared a World Heritage City by the Unesco in 1986 because of the city´s blend of Roman, Islamic, Northern gothic and Italian renaissance architecture.

Siempre aprovecho la oportunidad para poner velas por mi familia y mis amigos. Costumbres de familia supongo. Esta vez lo hago en la Con-catedral de Santa María. Es la Iglesia mas importante de Cáceres. Tiene el título de con-catedral desde 1957. Se construyó entre los siglos XV y XVI sobre un edificio anterior.
- I always take the chance to lit candles for my friends and family. Family habits I guess. This time I did it in the Con-cathedral of Santa Maria. This is the most important church in Cáceres. It was granted the status of co-cathedral in 1957. It was built between the 15th and 16th centuries over an earlier building.
Casi hora de cenar y yo no me voy de aquí sin tomar la torta del Casar, que es un queso hecho con leche de oveja en la región de Extremadura. Se le puso el nombre de la ciudad donde se hace, Casar.
- It´s almost dinner time and I´m not leaving this place without eating Torta del Casar, which is a cheese made from sheep´s milk in the Extremadura region of Spain. It is named after Casar, its city of origin.
Mientras cenamos, vemos a los niños en la calle jugar.
- While we were having dinner, we watched the children play.
Sabia que el centro historico de Caceres es maravilloso porque lo estudié en los cursos de arte... maravilloso!. Esos dulces caseros!!! uf! mi S. y yo nos hubieramos vuelto loquitos... nos chiflan!!! Bonitas fotos esas del atardecer...
