CASTILLOS BLOIS,CHAMBORD,CHENONCEAU

4 de Agosto 2015 - BLOIS DUERME
  1. 4th August 2015 - BLOIS IS SLEEPING
  1. I said it was sleeping, because after going around for more than half an hour, looking for a place to have breakfast, finally somebody gave us the chance to eat a tartine (tartine is a thin loaf of baguette, open as in the picture below, served with butter and confiture to spread) and a coffee. We didn´t want to have breakfast in the hotel and we thought any place with hot buns would do, but everything was closed!!. Everybody goes away in August!, well I suppose it´s not so weird, people are looking for beaches I suppose.

  1. The truth is that Blois is beautiful.
  1. The first thing we visited that day was the Royal Château of Blois. The Château, combines four distinct wings around a single courtyard, each one corresponding to a distinct period and style, forming a unique panorama of French architecture. The 19th and 20th century restorations complete the architectural history of the château.

  1. Just opposite, the House of Magic, which we didn´t visit as we wanted to spend time at the Château. The house has 5 floors where you can discover optical illusions and the life and work of Houdin, the most famous magician of all time.
Y vamos al Castillo Real.
  1. And we went to the Royal Château.
  1. Just above the entrance door, an equestrian statue of Louis XII
  1. And we arrived inside the patio where we could notice all the different styles of the buildings that form the Château´s patio. Classicism in the Gaston d´Orléans wing. Built by François Mansart for Gaston d´Orleans, Louis XIII´s brother between 1635 and 1638, this wing is a masterpiece of French Classical architecture. The staircase with its spectacular double vault is decorated with allegorical sculpture.
  1. Renaissance in the François I wing. Built less than fifteen years after the Louis XII wing, the François I wing, is a brilliant illustration of the rapid stylistic evolution towards a decoration inspired by Italy but still applied to a traditional French sturcture. The projecting staircase tower is a perfect example of this intermixing of influences.
  1. Flamboyant in the Louis XII wing. A discreet introduction of an Italianate decoration can be found intermixing with the predominantly Northern influences. The Fina Art Museum occupies the former royal apartments on the first floor.
  1. From here, the view over the city are awesome.
  1. We are practically by ourselves in here, the best thing to do if you want to see these things without many people around is to come early. By the way, entrance ticket cost 10Euros per person.
La entrada impresionante.
  1. The entrance is impressive.
Los aposentos del rey.
  1. The King´s apartments.
Sala Neo-renacimiento.
  1. Some 19th century art drew inspiration from the Renaissance. This room evokes the spirit of an aristocratic sitting room and holds a collection of ceramics and a second rom furnished in a bourgeois style.
  1. The music is always present in the daylife routines of the Château.
  1. And there we went, up the stairs. I have to admit that it´s a stair but it´s gorgeous.
  1. And as I´ve seen in some castles, there´s always some sort of story behind the walls. In this case, it´s not a love story but sad in my opinion. this is the story of a girl, Antonietta Gonzalez, she had a rare genetic disorder Hypertrichosis, also called "werewolf syndrome". Her father was the first known person to be affected with this disorder. It seems a little surprising that so many people within the Gonzalez fammily were affected. One writer noted that in terms of pathology, the Gonzales sisters were one in a billion, all three of them. Antonietta and her isters were welcomed in to the courts of Europe, having received considerable attention from physicians and nobles, also subject to medical investigations and portrait sittings. Antonietta explained a little of her personal history in a handwritten diary she wrote.
  1. What a shame how they were introduced in court. "Bizarre, bizarre!, it´s not a cat, it´s a little girl, pretty but completely covered in hair since birth!". It´s said that she was very well educated.
  1. We went back to the hotel because we were already leaving. On our way to Nantes, we wanted to visit other Castles. Definately I liked this village, with its old shops.
  1. 12km away from Bois, and driving through a rural area, sorting out farms built ages ago, in a landscape that trapped us in its beauty finally we arrived to one of the most impressive Castles I have ever seen. THE CHÂTEAU OF CHAMBORD
  1. There are a couple of things everybody should keep in mind if visiting here. We didn´t come early to this castle (first mistake), so we weren´t so "alone" this time but following a small crowd. Terrible mistake not to take the tickets in advance, it´s funny because we normally do, but I suppose we didn´t know we were coming today so we left this a bit "in the air" and decided to go with the flow....well don´t do this. Thank god the entrances were colapsed and they opened two more, so we were able to be at the beginning of the queue this time. More here
  1. The royal Château de Chambord is one of the most recognizable château in the world because of its very distinct French Renaissance architecture. And more here
  1. The moment you go into this place, your eyes go up to admire the ceiling. The salamander, emblem of Francis I and of his Château of Chambord.
  1. And once inside, discover the monumental stair, the one in the middle (under the center spire) is a double helix staircase so that King Louis XIV could see who was on the stairs with him at all times.
  1. This stair is crazy, I just was able to take one picture when I was going up, so these two pictures above aren´t mine, as I said before, the castle was loaded with visitors at that moment, but fortunately, just one sec as I was going up I was able to shot my camera and took nobody in the picture, so I think Louis XIV couldn´t always see everybody in the stairs at the same time, well that´s my humble opinion.
  1. Old tapestries trapped me....they are beautiful.
  1. The exterior staircase of Henry II....and its gargoyles, I don´t know what I have with gargoyles too, they bring to my attention always.
Mogollón de información aquí
  1. Tones of information in here
  1. All the pictures are mine, we were up and down all the time, tiring but worth it.
  1. The inside of the Château is spectacular, it`s clear it was also used for hunting purposes....just a tiny cottage for the weekend, lol.
  1. In the Château there is also an equestrian show but we didn´t assist because the ticket together with the castle entrance ticket was 21 Euros, the ticket to the castle cost 11 Euros and the show 10 Euros. We thought the visit to the castle was enough.
  1. By the time we finished the visit it was late for lunch already, so we took the car and drove towards Chenonceau, thinking of stopping by any place for a light snack, but in the middle of a rural zone, in Pontlevoy, we found a tiny hotel and restaurant with enough charm Augerge de l´Ecole so we decided to have lunch in here.
  1. We weren´t going to have a proper lunch, "quelque chose" as they say there in France, but in the end, the menu was tempting, it was late (3.00 pm) and we really enjoyed the meal, everything was gorgeous.
El sitio una monada la verdad.
  1. The place enchanting really.
  1. Who can resist a "noisette" in a cup like this?
Y nos vamos a Chenonceaux. ¡Qué castillo tan precioso!. La entrada cuesta 12 Euros
  1. And ready to go to Chenonceaux. What a beautiful Château!. Ticket costs 12 Euros.
  1. In spite of the size of Chambord, is Chenonceaux, for me, the most beautiful Château. And you know what makes it different?, well, because it´s The Lady´s Château. Through history, 6 different women have taken care of it and obviously the Château has that "femenine touch" the other haven´t.
  1. One of the most important thing for them was the kitchen but also the decoration of the different rooms.
  1. The Château itself is a beauty, but unfortunately, we had to make it quicker because it was so crowded that it looked as if we were all going to a procession.
  1. "Château des Dames" for the history of France, built in 1513 by Katherine Briçonnet and successively made more attractive by Diane de Poitiers and Catherine de Médicis. It was spared from the hardships of the Revolution by Madame Dupin.
  1. This feminine imprint is present throughout, having preserved the castle from conflicts and wars and made it a haven of peace ever since.
  1. Furnished and decorated with rare tapestries and antique paintings, it is the most visited private historical monument in France, endowed with several pleasure gardens, a park and a wine estate.
  1. The vegetable and flower garden, open to visitors, is an ideal place to wanter. It is composed of twelve square plots bordered with apple trees and Queen Elizabeth rosebushes. A team of about ten gardeners grows a hundred or so different varieties of cut flower, needed for the interior floral decoration of the Château. visitors may also discover a wide range of vegetables and plants.
  1. Catherine´s Garden is more "intimate" (in spite of its 5.500 square meters). Is the very picture of refinement.

  1. The farm, a superb group of 16th century buildings, including Catherine´s stables, opens onto the vegetable garden. The building at its centre houses the floral workshop where two florists work all year round.
  1. And a Carriage Gallery, located in the large stable of the farm, presents a rare collection of both noble and rural horse vehicles. There were one of English origin, like the Tilbury.
  1. 2 hours later we are in Nantes without stopping. I´m exhausted but after a quick shower, we took the bus to go to the center of the city and have dinner in the old part. We didn´t eat much, some musles and fries (Moules frites) which is something very typical in France. The name of the restaurant "Les Moules du Bouffay".
Y mañana será otro día.
  1. And tomorrow will be another day

    ¡Besos mil!

. . todo de ensueño.
