UN SABADO MUY COMPLETO {IT HAS BEEN A QUITE FULL DAY}

CURSO FONDANT Y COMIDA EN BASOLLÚA CON DEGUSTACIÓN DE ACEITES  DE OLIVA VIRGEN EXTRA DE ILOVEACEITE - MY FIRST FONDANT COURSE AND LUNCH AT BASOLLÚA WHERE WE HAD AN EXTRA VIRGIN OLIVE OIL TASTING

There are Saturdays when I got up and my breakfast lasts three hours, yes three hours!, browsing through all the magazines I haven´t read yet, I go over the classes I´m going to teach during the following week and I plan my agenda to see what can´t I miss. I also read the blog-roll and cook at the same time.

Yesterday, it was quite different. At 9.00 I found myself heading to the new course I was attending. Learning how to decorate tarts with fondant,  isn´t a priority but I was curious. It lasted 4 intense hours!, I can´t believe the morning flew by so fast.

We made the fondant from scratch. We combined the water, jelly, glucose, glycerin, crisco and icing sugar. What a mess!. Here in the picture, literally with our hands in dough.

Thank God we had Arantxa there to help us, just in case the fondant wasn´t coming as she expected.

Once the fondant was ready, we covered it with cling film and then sat at the table, where we dyed it, rolled out fondant using a rolling pin and then covered the cake Arantxa had already made for us the day before.

Okay, I couldn´t touch my camera while dyeing my fondant, so when I finished, I took a picture of R. painting her cake with apricot jam to put her fondant all over it.

Wow, M. has it already!. She´s cutting the edges with a cutter. At this point we know each other already. We´ve talked about our children, about us. We´re having a blast!. She´s making the tart for her grandchildren.
Arantxa explicándonos como alisarlo a la perfección.

Arantxa explaining how to manipulate it to perfection.

R. had it as well. She didn´t know at first whom the tart was for. She wanted to make it for her children and that´s why she dyed it in blue. In the end, she thought about her mom and she made it for her.

Making all the decorations for the cake with cutters and similar.

Oh, here it is!. My cake. I cut flowers as if I was possesed or something. (Weird, I´m a winter person). And without realising, I dyed this piece of fondant for the flowers same color as my kitchen wallpaper color. Did you realise?. Weird again.

I spent like 30 minutos cutting flowers and then about an hour hiding my mistakes with them.

But, if I don´t tell this to anybody, I think nobody will find out!. It doesn´t matter, it´s my first fondant, my first dyeing, my first flowers and my first tart decoration without even plan it. It´s clear I went with the flow!!!.
Creo que he aprobado.

R. also passed with her tart, with these flowers Arantxa showed her how to make.

And also M. with this tart for her grandchildren.

I left the course in a hurry, I had lunch in one of the Gastronomic Societies in San Sebastián, Basollúa. My I. and I are invited to a virgin olive oil tasting and  lunch after. I´m sorry, I didn´t take any picture there, I´m so sorry!.

Fernando R. Ortega, from ILOVEACEITE.COM, tells us that this olive oil is a great quality extra virgin olive oil, obtained from best olives, of the varieties Picual and Royal. I´m going to give you his web because I promised him to do so. I arrived late, and I have to tell you that the truth is we don´t know much about extra virgin olive oils.

I really had a great time!. Loren cooked a very tasty meal for all of us. I met a few gastronomic bloggers who came to San Sebastián to run our 34 marathon. (Don´t think about me because I didn´t).

We ate bread with tomato, salted anchovies, tuna fish and jamón, of course with extra virgin olive oil from Iloveaceite. Main course, artichokes, of course we drizzled some virgin olive oil over them. Then we had hake with potatoes and to finish, a rice pudding made with chesnuts and vanilla ice-cream, which also had some extra virgin olive oil on top.

I´m going to give you another three blogs you can browse through and this post will be over for today.
With Alberto sitting next to us,  we chatted during lunch. We had a great time! .

And this is Pedro´s blog. Amazing blog to make tapas (we call them pintxos in the Basque country). There are many recipes that I want to make. Well that´s what I plan to do. If I were you, I´d go over it.
