CUADERNO DE VIAJE Nº 5 – UDAIPUR – 5 NOV 2010

Estamos en el cielo de Rajasthan, el lugar más romántico del subcontinente Indio.
Estamos en Udaipur.

1. We are in Rajasthan sky, this is the most romantic place in the Indian subcontinent.

Esta ciudad de tonos crema, rosa y madreselva, coronada por cúpulas, es para muchos la ciudad más romántica de la India. Rodeada por el Lago Pichola, emerge del centro del lago el Palacio del Lago, que parece desafiar a las leyes de arquitectura cuando las lluvias son abundantes.

1. This city of cream, pink and honeysuckle tones, crowned by domes, is for many the most romantic city in India. Surrounded by Lake Pichola. Lake Palace emerges from the center of the lake, which seems to defy architectural laws when the rains are heavy.

El Palacio de la ciudad está junto al lago, coronado por balcones, torres y cúpulas. Acabó siendo un conjunto palaciego, pues incluye otros 11 palacios diferentes más pequeños, una vez mas, los Marajás siguientes construyeron edificios colindantes dando como resultado a un conjunto sorprendente. En el interior, museos de armas, salas con piezas de vidrio y espejo y las salas decoradas con pinturas en miniatura, típicas de la escuela Mewar y por cierto maravillosas.

1. The Palace of the city is next to the lake, crowned by balconies, towers and domes. It ended up being a palace complex, since it includes other 11 different smaller palaces, once again, Marajás built adjoining buildings resultina in a surprising set. Inside, weapons museums, rooms with pieces of glass and mirror and rooms decorated with minuature paintings, typical of the school Mewara and certainly wonderful.

El Palacio de la ciudad en Udaipur, fue construído en un estilo extravagante y se considera el más grande de su tipo en el estado de Rajasthan. Edificado sobre una colina, en una fusión de los estilos arquitectónicos Rajasthani y Mughal, proporcionando una vista panorámica de la ciudad y sus alrededores.

1. The city Palace in Udaipur, was built in a flamboyant style and is considered the largest of its type in the state of Rajasthan. It was built atop a hill, in a fusion of the Rajasthani and Mughal architectural styles, providing a panoramic view of the city and its surroundings.

Todas las pinturas del interior del Palacio son espectaculares.

1. All the paintings inside the palace are awesome.

Con Ganesha presente en muchas zonas. Ganesha es uno de los dioses ás conocidos y adorados del panteón hinduista. Tiene cuerpo humano y cabeza de elefante. Ampliamente reverenciado como removedor de obstáculos, patrono de las artes, de las ciencias y señor de la abundancia.

1. Devotion to Ganesha is widely diffused and extends to Jains and Buddhists. Although he is known by many attributes, Ganesha´s elephant head makes him easy to identify. Ganesha is widely revered as the remover or obstacles, the patron of arts and sciences and the deva of intellect and wisdom. He has the body of a human and an elephant´s head.

El palacio fue fotografiado como hotel en 1983 para la película de James Bond Octopussy.

Las vistas desde arriba son impresionantes.

El Lago Pichola es como la marca de identidad de Udaipur. Tiene 4 kilómetros y se dice que es uno de los mas bonitos. Así cogimos este tour por el lago que creo que nadie debe perderse. Comienza en Rameshwar Ghat en el Palacio de la Ciudad. El Lago tiene dos islas llamadas Jagniwas y jagmandir.

1. Everybody knows about the gorgeous Lake Pichola: it´s like another vital identity of Udaipur. It is a 4kms long lake and is believed to be one of the most beautiful ones as well. There we took a boat ride that I think nobody can´t miss out. It starts from Rameshwar Ghat in the City Palae. The lake has two famed islands namely Jagniwas and Jagmandir.

Nada altera la vida cotidiana alrededor del lago.

1. Nothing disturbs the daylife routine around the lake.

La Isla de Jagmandir, flanqueada por una hilera de enormes elefantes, fué en su momento refugio para mujeres y niños europeos. Tiene una torre del siglo 17, de Gol Mahal, tallada de cobre y que contiene una pequeña muestra de la historia de Jagmandir, además de unos jardines y unas vistas del lago maravillosas.

1. The Jagmandir Island, with its entrance flanked by a row of enormous stone elephants, the island has an ornate 17th century tower, the Gol Mahal, carved from bluestone and containing a small exhibit of Jagmandir´s history, plus a garden and lovely views across the lake.

Una vez terminado el paseo, nos metemos de lleno en Udaipur, con la intención de comprar unos dulces. ¡Nos han invitado a comer en la casa del primo de nuestro guía!, además de me dejan entrar en la cocina y hacer pan. Esta es otra visita inesperada que tengo que aprovechar. Aquí no les gusta el agradecimiento excesivo, pero es nuestra costumbre y lo vamos a hacer. Los hindús son tan hospitalarios que no esperan que estés agradeciéndoles todo el tiempo que te hayan invitado. Estamos en Diwali.

1. Once the tour finished, we got fully into Udaipur, with the intention of buying some sweets. They invited us to eat at the house of our guide´s cousin!!. They also let me into the kitchen to make bread. This is another unexpected visit that I took advantage of. There, they don´t like excessive gratitude, but it´s the way we do it. The Hindus are so hospitable that they don´t expect you to be thanking them all the time they have invited you. We are in Diwali.

Concentrarse y hacerlo bien es un must. Estas mujeres hacen entre 50 y 60 panes todos los días para acompañar la comida.

1. Concentration to do things right is a must. These women make between 50 and 60 flat breads everyday to eat their food.

De camino a nuestro hotel, paramos en una farmacia. ¡Nos costó encontrarla!.

1. On our way back to our hotel, we stopped in a pharmacy. We couldn´t find it!.

Todo estaba preparado para esta noche que es la más importante del Diwali. Durante esta fiesta, la gente se pone ropa nueva, comparte dulces y hace explotar petardos y fuegos artificiales. Es la entrada del nuevo año hindú y una de las noches más significativas y alegres del año.

1. Everything was ready for that night, that was the most important night of Diwali.
2. During this fiesta, people wears new clothes, shares sweets and fills the cities with lights and fireworks This is the beginning of the new Year and one of the most important and happiest nights of the year.

Las ciudades se decoran hasta el infinito y mas allá, y te ves en medio de un mundo lleno de color y muy brillante.

1. Cities are decorated to the infinity and beyond, and you find yourself in the middle of a city full of colour and sparkling.

1. Another gorgeous day in this so incredible country.
